Holidays Around the World Research Project
Are you looking for an engaging and culturally enriching winter holidays research project to help your middle and high school intermediate and advanced ESL students learn about holidays around the world? This Holidays Around the World research project puts a twist on your typical Christmas Around The World idea. It's designed with your students' diverse cultural backgrounds in mind, providing a comprehensive and interactive exploration of Christmas and non-Christian holidays all over the world.
✨Choices are, but not limited to:
Christmas (any country approved by the teacher)
Hanukkah
Kwanzaa
Boxing Day
Bodhi Day
Dongzhi Festival
Yule
Omisoka
In this 3-week-long project, your students will go on a deep exploration of a chosen holiday anywhere in the world. They’ll research, present, and write an essay about the holiday of their choice.
This product covers the following standards:
The student engages in both short-term and sustained recursive inquiry processes
Locate relevant resources
Examine sources for credibility
Take notes
Cite resources
Give a presentation using language effectively
Compose informational texts
Revise drafts
Publish written work for appropriate audiences
Students will research:
The name of the holiday.
Location of the country on the world map
The history and origins of the holiday, including dates.
Foods prepared for the specific holiday (main dishes, desserts, etc.)
Beliefs the people hold.
Specific traditions during this holiday.
Rituals specific to this holiday.
Festivities and celebrations
Cultural/traditional clothing worn during this holiday.
Any fun or interesting facts learned about this holiday.
